I purchased the POD 3s to replace a now broken Altec Lansing ACS340 2.1 system. My how things have changed in the powered speaker world! I was expecting good sound, but I was pleasantly surprised by the POD 3s reproduction of CDs, online music, music downloads, and movie sound tracks. The Pod 3s design is similar to some other powered desktop speakers I listened to and read about. The power button is on the rear of the powered speaker; the wireless remote lacks an on/off function; the power indicator is a bright blue led; there are no grills; the paint is gloss black; and there is no headphone output. The previously listed “cons” do not present a problem nor are they a deal breaker for me. I can easily turn off the speakers on my desktop; there are blue lights on my printer, receiver, cable box, and alarm clock; all my home theater speakers, receiver, and blu-ray player are black gloss; I usually remove speaker grills for listening; the POD 3s bass is tight, clean, and deep enough for me to enjoy the music; the powered speaker gets warm after three or four hours; the POD3s free my ears from headphones; the owner’s manual was copyrighted in 2007, so these speakers are at least 5 years old. You will have to decide for yourself if you can live with the POD 3s “cons” or not. Final thoughts- I thoroughly enjoy listening to the POD 3s since they exceed my expectations for a small desktop pc loudspeaker. The POD 3s open a nice detailed window to my music. They play loud and clean enough to be used in some small to medium sized rooms and could easily damage your hearing if played too loud in the near field. I took them into my 35 x 14 foot home theater room, placed them on 24-inch stands and let them rip. They sounded just fine. Are the POD 3s the best speakers of this type on the market? No they are not, nor do they sound as good as my Chartwell LS3/5As did back in the day. Can the POD 3s mine the deep bass of large scale organ works, bass guitar and such? No, they cannot, but their bass is tight and controlled. If you must have the missing lower octaves, be my guest and get yourself a subwoofer (I connected the POD3s to my Pinnacle Ultrasonic Sub in the home theater room and the sound was full, deep, and enjoyable). The POD 3s are great powered bookshelf speakers (masquerading as desktop pc speakers). What you get for your $80 investment is a very nice sounding stereo power amp, preamp, wireless remote, two great sounding speakers, and all necessary connectors to hook them up to a source and enjoy the music. In the end that is what it’s all about. The Prodipe Pod 3s are deserving of my highest recommendation when I consider price, build quality, accessories included, and above all performance. Definitely a *****Five Star “Best Buy” (IMHO)

By Joseph Johnson I do not have a studio, but if i did, these speakers would suit it very nicely. I didn't give them a full 5 because they get very hot, and im not sure if this is a normal thing, but normally when things get hot and used often, they tend to last not so long, so im a little worried with these guys. Currently i am using them as my home theater system, using my computer plugged into a 42 inch tv as my main form of entertainment they get very loud, and not distorted, they handle alot for being very small, rich bass, but if your looking for something bassier, i would think about getting an external sub for them. the ipod feature is really cool. on some of the european websites reviewers said that this pair hummed, and it is true, they do, if you put your ear right next to them. they seperate sounds beautifully, im listening to them right now and hearing new parts of songs while still holding the same emotion. i am happy with my purchase!
